After Tragedy, Aaron Found Confidence

After an IED took his left skull and eyesight away, retired Sergeant Aaron Cornelius healed physically, but the invisible wounds left him feeling helpless. Dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder and knowing he would never see his daughter again, he spiraled into a deep depression.

Then, he remembered one of the Wounded Warrior Project teammates who visited him every day in the hospital and that's when he found his way to Project Odyssey®. Surrounded by warriors who also faced emotional battles, Aaron found the healing and confidence to reclaim his role as a father, and to feel human again.

Like Aaron, you can take back your life. If you're suffering the pain of invisible wounds of war, darkness, loneliness, and frustration don't have to define you. Tomorrow can be better, and Wounded Warrior Project is here to help.

Warrior Care Network® Helped Jenna Take Back Her Life

Facing physical and mental injuries after his deployment to Afghanistan, Jenna's husband Isaac returned an unrecognizable man. “It was like war came to our house,” Jenna says. Overwhelmed by the weight of caring for her husband and three young children, she began to experience mental health challenges of her own. That's when she reached out to WWP.

Jenna found the resources and support she needed to reclaim herself, her marriage, and her family.

Project Odyssey Helped Bill Find Lifelong Support

When retired Master Sergeant Bill Geiger returned to civilian life, his joy for life was gone, replaced by anxiety, depression, and a short temper. Bill realized how much his anger was affecting those around him when he learned his wife had reconsidered her decision to marry him. That's when he reached out for help.

Bill found a group of warriors who could relate to the struggles he was facing and the support he needed to begin healing his family and himself.

Warrior Care Network Helped Sam Find Herself

Retired Staff Sergeant Samantha “Sam” Hargrove felt different after returning home from her deployment to Iraq. Though she had no physical wounds, she couldn't escape the memory of what she'd experienced during the war. Anger and survivor's guilt consumed her. The day Sam punched a hole in the wall and saw the fear on her godson's face, she knew she needed to get help.

Sam found the tools to cope with the anxiety and pain caused by her invisible wounds… and to feel like herself again.
